The list now grows to 11, the number of cities/towns in the Centennial State that have said, 'No more plastic bags.'

According to the Denver Post and the Steamboat Pilot, the Steamboat Springs city council voted 4-3 on Tuesday night (May 21, 2019) in favor of banning plastic bags. The ban will apply to the larger stores in town- Wal Mart, City Market, Safeway, and Walgreens.

Starting October 1, 2019, shoppers at those stores will either have to bring in their own non-plastic bags to use or pay a 20 cent fee to use paper bags. That fee is expected to bring in upwards of $400,000 in the first year. That money will be used to support a yet to be created waste diversion outreach program within the city.

According to BagLaws.com Steamboat Springs will be the 11th town or city within Colorado that bans plastic bags. Other towns/cities include Aspen, Breckenridge, Crested Butte, Vail, and Telluride.
