An 800,000 square-foot fulfillment center, described as state of the art, will be opening in Colorado Springs in the near future, bringing with it 1,000 jobs.

The announcement came this (Thursday) morning in Colorado Springs and while the date for the center to open is still a mystery, the announcement will make many people searching for work quite happy.

The positions will pay a starting wage of $15 per hour with full medical, vision, and dental insurance, 20 weeks of paid maternity/paternity leave, opportunities for continuing education with 95 percent of tuition paid, and a 401K with a 50 percent match, with more to be available to full-time employees.

A fulfillment center is where the items you order from Amazon are shipped and with this new facility, to be opened near the Colorado Springs Airport, Amazon will do a better and quicker job of getting the items ordered into the hands of consumers faster.

Mayor John Suthers had this to say in his announcement:

"The city of Colorado Springs is thrilled to welcome this new Amazon facility to our community,” the arrival of this incredibly successful and innovative company brings with it a wealth of good-paying jobs in our Southeast quadrant and continued positive growth at the Colorado Springs Airport. I commend the Colorado Springs Airport, the city’s economic development division and our partners at the Colorado Springs Chamber and EDC for yet another very positive development for the city of Colorado Springs.”

Once the announcement for the opening date has been made and when they will begin accepting applications we will let you know.
