I found a list at Slate.com of seven random things that are saving your life RIGHT NOW. You might be surprised to see what's on the list!

I'm surprised AIR is not on the list . . .

1.  Cotton.

How? Before cotton, clothes were mostly made of wool.  And wool was great at hosting lice! which carry typhus and other nasty diseases!

2.  Satellites.

How? Storm forecasting saves lives because people can get prepared and evacuate before a storm hits.

3.  Fluoride.

How? People actually use to die a slow, painful death from an abscessed teeth . . .

4.  Window screens.

How? Houseflies can be deadly, carrying all kinds of diseases. But screens keeps them out.

5.  Road reflectors.

How? "Botts' Dots" or those little white bumps on roads were installed to keep drivers in their lane . . . especially when it's dark and rainy.

6.  Air-conditioning.

How? Having A/C cuts the death rate by up to 80 percent on sweltering days.

7.  Shoes.

How? Well there's a parasite called a "hookworm" that can ENTER YOUR BODY in the space between their toes and they can be DEADLY.  Used to happen all the time from walking barefoot out of an outhouse.
