Zero week begins this weekend for high school football, with six games on tap for the official kickoff Friday.

The most notable game involves Grand Junction and Montrose. Before this year, both teams were part of the Southwestern League and Friday’s game would be considered a premiere match-up.

Since then, the Southwestern League has been dissolved and Grand Junction now belongs with the 5A South Metro League, while Montrose belongs to the 4A Foothills League. As a result, Friday’s Tigers-Indians match-up will have a new meaning, with both squads preparing for a whole new set of teams after this weekend.

Friday’s schedule of games stacks up like this (all games have a 7:00 p.m. game start):

  • Grand Junction travels to Montrose
  • Delta hosts The Classical Academy
  • Ignacio travels to Hotchkiss
  • Aspen is at Cortez
  • Moffat County is at Rifle
  • Rangely hosts Del Norte
