I had a chance recently to visit Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre just west of Denver, and could not resist the idea of a challenge with my older brother.

Never mind that we had just hiked about 2 1/2 miles to get there -- and most of that was uphill. But, when I saw the stairs leading to the top of the amphitheatre I had to try it -competitively.

Now, I have to say, my brother (pictured above) LOOKS a lot older than me, but actually it's just 2 1/2 years, and he's about 2/12 inches taller than me, and he's a life- long hiker and mountain climber. They call him the goat. It certainly seems that he would have the advantage.

We called it the Great Coffee Challenge - a race to the top of the stairs with the loser buying the coffee-- and as I later learned - the ice cream, too. I'm not sure that people our age should be doing this sort of thing, but we lived to tell about it, so I guess all's well that ends well.

In the video it doesn't look like I'm running, but, believe me, it felt like I was running. Next time I think he's going to have to give me a head start- or maybe we implement the two-step rule.....no more than two steps at a time.
