The idea of trading  your wedding rings for football tickets seems absurd. That is until you hear the rest of the story.

The story has been circulating around the national media about a woman in Kansas City who wanted to get her husband tickets to the Chiefs-Broncos game for hist birthday. They couldn't afford tickets, and so in order to make it possible, she put the rings on Craigslist hoping to trade the rings, valued at over $3000, for a pair of Chiefs' tickets.

Is this a case of extraordinary love and  devotion, or is this a matter of unequivocal insanity?

On the one hand, the woman seems to have an incredible desire to make her husband happy. That is certainly admirable. What man wouldn't appreciate that?

But, a romantic might say, what a horrible thing to trade the symbol of  your love and marriage for something as inconsequential as football.

What if your spouse did something like that for you? Would you feel that your marriage and relationship was being minimized, or would you appreciate the gesture as a tremendous act of love?

For me, personally, the only event that might be worth such an act would be if the Minnesota Vikings were in the Super Bowl. I'm sure I don't have to worry about it, though, since it's higly unlikely that the Vikes will ever get to the big game again. Besides that, my wife's wedding ring would probably only get us a cab ride to the stadium, and a couple of footlongs and a pretzel.
