I'm not a person who is usually afraid of heights. But after vising the Empire State building in New York and standing out on the observation deck, I could be. For decades, the Empire State building was the world's tallest building at 1,454 feet to the top of the spire and antennas. But it seems small compared to today's giant high rises. Here's how the Empire State Building stacks up against the world's tallest buildings based on their actual structural height.

  1. Burj Khalifa - Burj, Dubai  2,717 feet
  2. Taipei 101 - Taipei, Taiwan  1,671 feet
  3. Shanghai World Financial Center - Shanghai, China  1,614 feet
  4. International Commerce Centre - Hong Kong, China  1, 588 feet
  5. Petronis Tower 1 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia  1,483 Feet

When you consider the fact the Burj Khalifa is over one-half mile tall, that's a pretty impressive architectural feat. However, China is currently attempting to build the Sky City tower,  which is estimated to be 2,739 feet, when completed.
