Winter weather in Northern Colorado and across the eastern plains closed many highways in the state this morning because of strong winds and blowing snow. According to the National Weather Service, with winds gusting up to 35 mph, blowing snow is reducing visibility  to under 1/4 of a mile along I-70 and east of I-25.While many roads have now reopened, road closures remain in effect for SH 71 between Limon and Last Chance, and SH 86 between Kiowa and I-70.

These are the roads that were closed but have reopened.

  • I-25 between Wellington and the Wyoming state line
  • I-70 between Aurora and Kansas
  • SH 14 between Ault and Sterling
  • US 287 between Fort Collins and the Wyoming state line
  • SH 94 between Yoder and Edison
  • US 40 between Limon and Kit Carson
  • Eastbound US 24 between Colorado Springs and Limon
  • US 287 between Eads and Kit Carson

If you have travel plans today to the eastern plains, CDOT recommends you call 511 or visit www.cotrip.org for current road information.
