The National Weather Service has issued its first Winter Weather Advisory for the mountains of north-central Colorado.

The Winter Weather Advisory will impact mountains above 10,000 feet and is in effect from 9 p.m. this evening (Oct. 20) through noon on Wednesday (Oct. 21).

Accumulations of five to 10 inches are possible with 10 to 20 MPH winds coming out of the east. Visibility could drop to a quarter mile at times.

Surfaces along I-70 in the mountain passes above 10,000 feet could become icy, please take precautionary steps if you plan to travel to the Front Range.

Areas under the Winter Weather Advisory:

  • Jackson, Larimer, Grand, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Summit, Park and Boulder Counties
  • Laramie and Medicine Bow Mountains, Rabbit Ears Range, Rocky Mountain National Park, Willow Creek Pass, Berthoud Pass, Breckenridge, Mosquito Range, Gore Range, Eisenhower Tunnel, Indian Peaks, Kenosha Mountains, Mount Evans, Williams Fork Mountains, Winter Park.
