School bells are ringing and it is back to class today (Jan 8) for Grand Junction area elementary, middle and high school students.School district officials and local law enforcement remind motorists to reduce speeds near schools and in areas designated as school zones. Drivers are also reminded to watch for and stop for flashing school bus lights.
With sub-freezing temperatures expected to continue across the Grand Valley this week, parents are reminded it’s important to make sure children wear proper winter clothing including coats, hats and gloves especially if they have to wait at a bus stop or walk to school.
While some students may have a scheduled day or two off over the next couple of months, for School District 51 students, the next major break from classes won’t come until spring break in March.
At Colorado Mesa University, some students are already in class for the “J term.” However, most classes at the university don’t begin until the week of January 21.
