[UPDATED] Wind May Hamper Efforts to Extinguish Wildfire Near Gateway
Firefighters have been able to keep a wildfire near Gateway contained to less than 10 acres, but a windy forecast may hamper their efforts to extinguish the fire.
The Bucket Fire on Sky Mesa Ranch was first reported around 1:30 p.m. on Monday (September 18) on private property near John Brown Road.
[UPDATED September 20] The Mesa County Sheriff's Office reports as of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday (September 20) the fire is 100% contained. Crews will remain on-site to monitor overnight as a precaution.
A cabin in the area was initially threatened by the fire which is burning in an area covered with scrub oak, pine, sagebrush, and manzanita.
Air Tankers and a helicopter have been dropping water and fire retardant on the fire in an effort to contain it.
Fire crews from Bureau of Land Management, Gateway Fire Department, Lands End Fire Protection District and Mesa County Sheriff's Office have built a containment line around the fire.
