For the average person, overeating typically starts with Thanksgiving and lasts through the end of the year. All that extra food takes a toll on your body not only from weight gain, but other ways, too.

For one, your stomach is designed to hold only so much food, so when you overeat, the stomach has to expand putting stress on other internal organs.

The extra chemicals your body has to pump into your system to digest the extra food can cause even more distress, including gas traveling both directions in your digestive system.

The video explains most of the rest of what happens. The lesson is, don't eat more than you normally would, which can be difficult considering all the things that may be available at a meal.

A good idea is to take samples, not full servings, of all the things you want to try and listen to your brain when it says it's time to stop. And definitely resist the urge to go for a second helping.

In the end, you'll feel better and you won't have to make a New Years resolution to shed all the pounds you gained over the holidays.
