Actor Dan  Haggerty, best known for his role as Grizzly Adams from the movie and TV series 'The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams' turns 72 today. I thought he was long gone, but that simply isn't the case.

Haggerty's big moment was 1974's 'The Life and Time of Grizzly Adams', a movie based on a true story of a man who escaped to the wilderness after being accused of a crime he didn't commit. The movie role led to a short-lived 37 episode TV series of the same name in 1977.

In this video clip, Haggerty talks about the unlikely scenario of how he got the role that changed his life.

Haggerty holds the distinction of being the only person to have his star removed from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star was intended for another actor named Don Haggerty, but the name was spelled Dan, and so it was removed. The 'Grizzly Adams' star would eventually get his own star.

Since 'Grizzly Adams' Haggerty has done numerous acting projects, and most recently has appeared on American Pickers and has published a book.Happy Birthday, Dan!
