The first thing I thought about after the shootings on Friday, once the initial shock and anger had passed was, "How should I instruct my son to behave in a situation like this?"

I of course don't have the answer to that question so I got on Facebook and posted the following question on the Mesa County Sheriff's Office page, "

In light of all the random shootings in public places I'm wondering what you and the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Valley School District 51 recommend we tell our kids if they are ever involved in a situation like this and Mommy and Daddy aren't around?

The link and story they provided is based on a a video that my friend Thom Copp shared with us just a week ago:

Amazing advice for everyone and exactly how I plan to train my son.

Now that I am looking for a Day Care for him as well the first question I will ask them when I arrive is, "Had I been a shooter, what would your plan have been." If they can't answer me without a moments notices I won't enroll my son there.

Over the weekend a wise man said to me,

"When it comes to gun control what do you think is going to work best? A sign that says 'Guns Aren't Allowed' or a sign that says, 'People in this facility are armed for your protection'? He said, "No one is going to walk into the Grand Junction Trap Club and start shooting and even if they did, they wouldn't get far because everyone here is armed."

How are you going to prepare your kids?
