Western Colorado Snowstorms Blowing in From the Past
Those who have lived in Western Colorado for only a few years probably figure the area to be free of harsh Winters and heavy snowfall. However, speaking as someone whose family has lived here for generations, it does in fact snow, sometimes even a bunch, in Western Colorado. Snowfall for the month of November in Grand Junction averages 2.8 inches. The highest snowfall measured in a single day in November was 4.6 inches on November 26, 1983.
For those living on Little Park Road or Glade Park, a fixture of their daily commute was, and still is, sand barrels located on the side of the road. These came in very handy following an unfortunate trip off the side of the road due to ice and snow. A few coffee cans of sand underneath your tires, and you were back in action.
Downtown Grand Junction has seen its fair share of Winter weather.
