In an attempt to save some gasoline and get a little exercise, I decided to park and walk while running a few errands. As I walked across a section of sidewalk that was a combination of snow and ice, all I could think of were the words from the Paul Simon song, "the nearer your destination, the more you're slip sliding away."The City of Grand Junction asks residents and businesses to clear their sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall, but some people probably thought it would warm up and melt the snow by now, so they didn't bother. Thanks to the overly cold winter, nothing is really melting very fast leaving some of these sidewalks a combination of snow and slippery ice.

Even in places where the snow was shoveled, snow and ice pushed from the road has created some challenges for pedestrians.

My advice, tread carefully until it warms up and the snow melts or hope someone clears the sidewalk.
