Two popular Western Colorado lakes open to boats on Monday (May 1) meaning many boaters with the urge to get on the water will get their first chance of the season.

Crawford State Park and Sweitzer Lake State Park will open boat ramps on Monday. Early season water temperatures are going to be cold, so boaters should consider bringing cold water gear.

Both lakes require a mandatory aquatic nuisance species (ANS) inspection prior to entering the water.

The boat should be cleaned drained and dried before being inspected. Boaters with a seal must present a receipt verifying the seal.

All boats need current registration and if fishing, a valid Colorado fishing license. Boaters are also required to carry safety gear per Colorado regulations.

Crawford State Park is just south of Crawford on Highway 92. Sweitzer State Park is just off Highway 50 south of Delta. Both require a State Parks Pass for entry. Camping is also available at both lakes.
