If you're part of the Baby Boomer Generation you've likely owned at least a few '45s'. But how much do you really know about the popular 7-inch vinyl disc?

The 45 was synonymous with pop and rock hit music starting in the 1950s. In spite of competition from albums and tapes, 45s remained a relatively strong seller until some record companies felt - or found - it was a declining media.

More importantly, by the early 1990s it was cheaper to manufacture entire albums of compact discs.

One bit of trivia that wasn't in the video. In 1982, CBS Records briefly offered the one-sided 45 rpm single. I don't have any of those in my collection thinking at the time, what a waste. Now, I wish I would have bought some just for the novelty of owning one.
