Long-time Three Dog Night singer Cory Wells is dead at the age of 74.

Three Dog Night bandmate Danny Hutton today  announced the passing of Wells, who he described as "an incredible singer - a great performer, like a brother in so many ways."

According to the release on the Three Dog Night website, Wells died suddenly Monday in Dunkirk, New York. An original founding member of the band, Wells was performing with the band until September of this year when he developed a problem with severe back pain.

Hutton said " We had been together since 1965 and I am in shock at this sudden loss."  Wells is the second original Three Dog Night band member to die in 2015. Keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon passed away on March 11th with cancer at the age of 67.

One of three lead singers of the iconic band, Wells is perhaps best known for his lead vocals on the Three Dog Night hit "Mama Told Me Not to Come."

Wells is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary, along with two daughters and five grand children.

In the videos below, Three Dog Night performs "Mama Told Me Not to Come" and in an interview recorded about a year ago, Wells talks about his musical influences, signing up for welfare when Three Dog Night had their first number one hit, what has made Three Dog Night so successful, and his favorite TDN songs.
