The city of Fruita has cancelled their July 3rd fireworks due to the extreme fire danger. The grass and shrubs at the launch site is extremely dry this year and if a fire where to break out it would threaten nearby subdivisions. After consulting with local emergency services, city officials decided it was in the best interest of the public to cancel the show.

Michael Leroy Schonlau, 36 of Clifton is being held by the U.S. Marshal after threatening to blow up a  Fruita refinery. Schonlau allegedly called the FBI on August 5th, 2012 and stated he was armed with explosives, linked to a 200-million gallon propane tank and was suicidal.

As I was getting ready for my radio show this morning, I started thinking about what Labor Day really stands for. I don’t know what the national average of Americans working on Labor Day is, but 75-percent of the Chandler household is working, so I’m not sure the word “holiday” is appropriate to use when mentioning Labor Day, at least around my place.
