Fireworks

Everybody gets excited watching a good fireworks show, but imagine what it would be like if this was your first. You'd probably explode with as much excitement as this toddler did.

The Grand Junction Rockies are keeping quite busy this week, and all of it is to ensure fans will come out to the ballpark this summer when the team kicks off their 2014 season in June.

Granted, it’s not the 4th of July. Even though we are now in August, there’s an opportunity tonight (Friday) to see fireworks.

Everyone (or just about everyone) will have to agree with this statement – this week is definitely a weird week, due to the fact that a holiday (Independence Day) falls on a Thursday. For some people, this means a longer than usual weekend.

Maybe you live someplace where fireworks are illegal. Maybe secretly every time you hear some go off you are momentarily terrified that somebody on a neighboring block has just been shot to death. Maybe both (Brooklyn, rep!).

The city of Fruita has cancelled their July 3rd fireworks due to the extreme fire danger. The grass and shrubs at the launch site is extremely dry this year and if a fire where to break out it would threaten nearby subdivisions. After consulting with local emergency services, city officials decided it was in the best interest of the public to cancel the show.

With Colorado fighting wildfires across the state more communities are enacting fire restrictions as hot, dry, gusty weather continues around the state.

Earlier today, officials with Mesa County and the Bureau of Land Management announced that countywide fire restrictions will go into effect at midnight tonight (Wednesday).
