Adrienne Barbeau's 69th birthday  (June 11) couldn't pass without a remembrance of the 1982 cult classic Swamp Thing and a look back at Maude.

You might have become acquainted with Adrienne Barbeau on television's Maude, as she co-starred with Bea Arthur in the All in the Family spin-off. After Maude, everyone knew Adrienne, and someone must have  thought she would look awfully good on the big screen and she went on to star in movies like The Fog, Escape From New York, The Cannonball Run, and Swamp Thing.

The movie Swamp Thing is probably remembered more fondly than it actually was. It  certainly wasn't an award winning movie, although it was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Horror Film. It was sort of the "Beauty and the Beast" of horror films.(Do you remember Heather Locklear in 'The Return of Swamp Thing?")

If you missed out on Maude, and weren't that much into horror films, you certainly saw Adrienne in one of her promotional posters, none of which(unfortunately) ever adorned the walls of my bedroom as a teenager.

Most recently we saw an aged Adrienne on an episode of  Criminal Minds and she has continued to show up from time to time in television shows and movies. Perhaps before she is done she'll give us Son of Swamp Thing. In the meantime, Happy Birthday, Adrienne!

We flash back now to the original theatrical trailer for Swamp Thing.

And check out this clip of Adrienne in Maude, along with Bea Arthur and Bea's Golden Girls co-star Rue McClanahan.
