A suspect in an alleged domestic situation was fatally shot by Grand Junction Police Officers responding to a 911 call Sunday (September 4) afternoon.

The Grand Junction Police Department reports they received a 911 call at 3:47 p.m. from a woman who said her husband was acting erratically and she feared for the safety of her children in the home.

Police officers responded to the home located at the Shamrock Mobile Home Park 2845 North Avenue. In an effort to ensure the safety of the children, officers made contact with the man inside the home.

The shooting occurred a short time after police made contact. The suspect, in this case, died at the scene. There were no other injuries in this incident. North Avenue near 28 1/2 Road was closed briefly during the initial investigation.

Since this incident resulted in an officer-involved shooting, the Critical Incident Team was activated to handle the investigation. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is the lead agency in the investigation. Other law enforcement agencies are also involved in the investigation.
