The all-too-common story of a fallen police officer in the line of duty has prompted a Texas woman to launch the Backing the Blue Movement, to show support for these fallen heroes.

According to a Facebook post by True Blue Warriors, Grand Junction Deputy Derek Geer is the 6th law enforcement officer in the United States killed in the line of duty in 2016, the fourth to be shot and killed.

News Channel 25 in Waco, Texas reports Stefanie Fry, of Rogers, got the idea of the Backing the Blue movement on Tuesday as a show of support for law enforcement and to honor officers killed in the line of duty.

Those wanting to support the movement should simply place a thin blue line in the rear window of their car. A thin strip of painters tape will do the trick.

Fry posted the idea on Facebook and saw the post go viral with over three thousand shares.

It's a great way to show support to our first-responders, and to honor our fallen officers. Hopefully, we will see a large display of blue lines in Western Colorado.
