Children in Mesa County who have suffered abuse and neglect are getting a helping hand from some local superheroes.

The Bank of the West Superhero 5K and Family Fun Run and Walk will raise funds for CASA of Mesa County, making a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children.

CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, serves about 200 local  abused children each year. Volunteers provide a voice for the children in the courtroom. A volunteer gets to know the child and talks with everyone in the child's life and use that information to inform the judge and others what will be the best permanent home for them.

The Superhero 5k will be held on Saturday, October 3rd at the Colorado Mesa University Plaza. The family event features races, activities, music, food, photos, and prizes for all skill levels and ages.

The cost is just $10 for youth and CMU students, and $30 for adults, and $50 for families.

To register for this fun event or to learn more about being a volunteer with CASA you can visit their website -casamc.org.
