Go into the light, Carol Anne! The Northern Lights should be visible in Western Colorado tonight, thanks to some amazing timing.

According to Joe Kunches, a forecaster with the federal Space Weather Prediction Center, "the major pulse from the sun hit the Earth around 12:30 p.m. and started stirring up the magnetic field." That's smart-people-talk for "it's going to be shiny tonight."

According to Kunches, the most vibrant display should be one hour before midnight and one hour after. Kunches adds, "The lights of the aurora borealis hit it in what seems like gusts of wind, so it won't necessarily be a continuous show." That's smart-people-talk for "it's going to be sparkly, but not all the time."
