Arbor Day is all about trees and the annual family celebration in Fruita includes a special proclamation, tree planting and dedication to fallen law enforcement officers.

The Arbor Day celebration will take place on April 20 at the Fruita Police Department beginning at 4:00 p.m.

A special proclamation will be read followed by the tree planting. Children attending the event will have a chance to name the tree which will be dedicated to fallen police officers.

The first 100 people attending the event will have the opportunity to receive a free tree sapling. Master gardeners will be available to answer questions about planting and caring for the trees.

There will also be a craft area for kids to have fun while learning more about Arbor Day and the importance of trees in the community.

The event is free and cookies and punch will be served. Organizers will also recognize the winner of the 5th grade poster contest.
