When two iconic music legends like Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy are the first recipients of the Grammy Museum's 'Architect of Sound Award' you have an even greater appreciation of the music from Motown.

Robinson will will be honored with the 'Architect of Sound Artist Award.' Gordy, who founded Motown Records, will receive the 'Architect of Sound Vision Award'.

Bob Santelli, executive director of the Grammy Museum said of Robinson and Gordy,

We are honored to celebrate both Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson as the first-ever recipients of the Architects of Sound Awards. Their contributions to Motown have truly changed the landscape of American music."

The two will receive the awards at a Grammy Museum event scheduled for November 11 in Los Angeles. The event will also celebrate the museum's fifth anniversary.

Ringo Starr was honored by the Grammy Museum earlier this year with the first major exhibit ever dedicated to a drummer. The exhibit titled 'Ringo: Peace and Love' will be on display at the museum through March 2014.
