I have enjoyed  a handful of good days on the golf course - and a truck load of bad ones.In fact, there have been many times where being swallowed up by a sink hole in middle of the fairway would have actually been a welcomed occurrence. But, don't tell that to Golfers Mark Mihal and Mike Peters.Last week, Mike and Mark were out playing a round in Waterloo, Illinois. I'm not sure how the round was going, but they got to the 14th hole and the unthinkable happened.

No, not a hole in one. Just a hole.

Mike had just turned his back to get ready for his second shot when his friend Mark suddenly disappeared. Perhaps Mike thought he had run back to the club house for a couple of Bud Lights, but that wasn't the case. Mark had actually disappeared into an 18-foot sink hole right in the middle of the 14th fairway.

Later, Mark said he felt the ground start to collapse, and it happened so fast he couldn't do anything. Crews brought an 12-foot ladder but it wouldn't reach. His friend Mike crawled down into the hole, stabilized Mark's dislocated shoulder and helped him out.

Needless to say, that pretty much ended the round of golf. For Mark's sake, I hope he wasn't in the middle of the round of his life. And the worst part is Mark's going to be laid up for a while. What's worse than playing a bad round of golf? Not being able to play golf at all.
It looks like spring-like weather has moved into the Grand Valley and the golfers are heading out to take advantage. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. Not yet.
