As the Grand Valley is just seeing the first signs of fall with leaves changing and recent cooler temperatures, the Grand Mesa is already showing signs of winter with a September dusting of snow along the rim.

The National Weather Service is predicting cooler temperatures, more rain in the lower elevations and snow above 10,000 feet for the next few days.

The Grand Mesa isn't the only place in western Colorado with snow. There were also reports of snow along the top of the West Elk Mountains.

While accumulations of snow in the nearby mountains isn't expected to be much before warmer weather moves in for the weekend, it does give snow seekers a bit of optimism the Grand Mesa will be ready for winter recreation sooner rather than later.
