The Salvation Army officially kicked off its season of giving and Red Kettle campaign with a special event at Mesa Mall on Sunday.

The event featured representatives from the Salvation Army, Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, KKCO 11 News, KOOL 107.9 and the Grand Junction Harley Owners Group (HOGS) all showing support for the Red Kettle Campaign. Live entertainment was provided by the Messiah Lutheran School Children's Choir.

The Red Kettles and the dedicated bell ringers will be outside Grand Junction area businesses until Christmas. Money raised through the Red Kettle Campaign benefits the local Salvation Army and supports the work they do all year long. This year's goal is $200,000.

The Salvation Army also organizes a holiday food drive, serves free Thanksgiving dinner to those in need, and provides winter coats to those in need.

KOOL 107.9 also works with the Salvation Army and HOGS through the holidays by assisting with the annual Toy Drive. The perennial KOOL Toys for Kids and The Harley Owners Toy Ride ensure that the thousands of children served by the Salvation Army all have a great gift for Christmas.
