A near perfect day brought out over 600 bicyclists to ride the Rose Hill Rally on Sunday (May 3), a fundraiser for the Rose Hill Hospitality House.

With morning temperatures in the low 50s and almost no wind, many of the riders made a quick trip from Canyon View Park to Fruita or Highline Lake and back on the 50k or 100k  route.

Ride organizer Ed Lipton didn't have a final count, but said they had 500 riders pre-registered and over 100 walk-up registrations Sunday morning.

The ride, designed as a fun fitness ride for all ages, paid special tribute to and awarded a prize to the oldest rider who was 92-years-old.

Over $1,000 in additional money was raised this year with a silent auction of DT Swiss wheels and wheel bags. The Grand Junction Kiwanis Club also hosted a beer garden with proceeds benefiting the Rose Hill Hospitality House.

In 2016, the Rose Hill Rally will celebrate it's 20th year. When asked if there was anything special planned, Ed Lipton said absolutely, but they needed to finish this year's event before actively working on the ride's 20th anniversary which will be held on May 1.
