Like it or not, Grand Junction is getting another roundabout. Do you think it's a good idea?

KKCO reports the Colorado Department of Transportation is moving ahead with plans to put a roundabout at the intersection of Redlands Parkway and Broadway. Construction is expected to begin in February.

CDOT says there were 28 accidents at the intersection between 2010 and 2015, and they hope the roundabout will reduce that number.

If I know Grand Junction residents, there will be overwhelming opposition to the roundabout installation. Not that it will necessarily matter, but it would not be a surprise to see a movement similar to the "Save North Avenue" rise up in protest. It's doubtful that CDOT will care what residents have to say about it.

I have heard some people say roundabouts are confusing - especially the two-lane variety - and there are too many people that don't know how to properly and safely navigate through the roundabout which creates a hazard. I wonder if there have been any accidents on the Horizon Drive roundabouts?

On the other hand, plenty of people have made the roundabout transition without any problems and haven't lost any sleep over it.

The protest was loud when the Horizon Drive roundabouts were installed, but, the fact is, life has continued on and there doesn't seem to be any devastating effects on Horizon. The same is likely to be true in this case. A lot of people won't like the new roundabout, but, they will get used to it and life will go on.

So, we put the question out there to you, 'how do you feel about getting a new roundabout at the Redlands Parkway/Broadway intersection?
