Approximately 150 people showed up for an hour-long rally Saturday in support for the Second Amendment.

In observation of National Gun Appreciation Day, the Mesa County Patriots, Pro-Second Amendment Committee, and Colorado Freedom Alliance (formerly known as the Western Slope Conservative Alliance) hosted the rally in front of the historic Mesa County Courthouse, 544 Rood Avenue in Grand Junction.

With flags and hand-written signs in tow, the crowd was overall peaceful, with a few shout-outs of thanks and agreement to statements made by guest speakers.

Previous to the rally’s start, organizers encouraged attendees to openly carry guns to the rally, as demonstrated by some members of the crowd. One posted sign eloquently stated: “Open carry welcome! No chambered rifle rounds. Please exercise safe handling & proper etiquette.”

The rally came just days after President Barack Obama announced his desire to enact sweeping gun reform.
