Rabies is commonly spread by being bitten or scratched by an infected animal. Some things to look out for if you think you've been infected:

  • Burning/prickling at the bite/scratch site
  • Fever
  • Weakness
  • Headache

Immediately after the bite or scratch, wash the wound with soap and water to avoid infection and find a doctor right away. Rabies is a preventable disease and is a medical urgency, not emergency and decisions should not be delayed, according to the Center for Disease Control and Preventions.
