A film festival of monumental proportions will make its premiere in Grand Junction in October.

The Inspiring Monument Film Festival features short films produced and directed by young filmmakers from Grand Junction who are students at R-5 High School.

All the short films are inspired by the iconic Colorado National Monument.

The student filmmakers were assisted by Colorado National Monument Rangers and Colorado Mesa University Mass Communications Department who provided background, historical, and technical assistance to the students.

The films will premiere on Wednesday (October 4) from 10 a.m. until Noon at the Colorado Mesa University Center Ballroom. There is no charge to attend the event. The public is invited to enjoy the spectacular beauty of the Colorado National Monument from each filmmaker's unique perspective.

The series of short films will be judged and the winners' films will be featured on the Colorado National Monument website.
