 Relay For Life is looking for Teams to walk for the 10th Anniversary
of Relay For Life in Grand Junction.June 19th and 20th. It is the 25th Anniversary of Relay For Life  nationwide.Go to the Grand Junction Relay For Life website and sign up a team or get more information.

Cancer Research dollars that have come back to Colorado in grants is $11,368,717.
 
 
One of the areas in which Relay For Life dollars are returned to your community is
through programs and services designed to support cancer patients, caregivers
and their families. 
 
During the past year more than 200 patients in Mesa County benefited from local
American Cancer Society Programs. Many more used the services and on line
assistance provided by the Society.
 
For more information on the programs, or to become involved by volunteering in
the community, call Judy Morehouse, Quality of Life Manager with the
American Cancer Society at 254-5582.

March 21 – April 3
Reach to Recovery®
Reach to Recovery connects women facing breast cancer with the
comfort and inspiration only a fellow survivor can provide.
Trained volunteers who have experienced cancer first hand help ease patients
through their fears, providing hope and the courage to fight.
Printed materials, pillows and prosthesis are also provided to newly diagnosed patients.
 
 
April 4 – April 17
Man to Man®
Through Man to Man support groups, prostate cancer patients overcome
difficult issues by sharing their experiences, finding hope in each
other’s successes, and drawing strength from new friendships.
The program also encourages men to educate their communities about
the disease and to advocate with local lawmakers for stronger
research and treatment policies.
They meet the 2nd Monday of each month at the First Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m.
 
 
April 18 – May 1
Patient Lodging Program
Reduced motel rates are available for those patients traveling from
out of town receiving treatment in Grand Junction.  
 
 
May 2 – May 15
I Can Cope®
I Can Cope classes empower adult patients and their loved ones to successfully
navigate the cancer experience, overcome fears, and remain positive
with the help of medical professionals who provide vital information
in a supportive environment.
 
 
May 16 – May 29
Cancer Survivors NetworkSM
This online community created by cancer survivors connects patients, survivors,
and their loved ones with others who have “been there” for insight,
moral support, and inspiration. It provides several forums for
people to express their personal struggles with cancer,
including a radio talk show, individual stories, personal Web pages,
chat rooms, an Expression Gallery, and more.

Whether they know what they need or are not even sure where to start, a call to the
Society’s 24-hour, toll-free information service can be a critical step in helping
people facing cancer understand their disease and decide how to overcome it.
Trained cancer information specialists are available 24 hours a day, seven days
a week to answer questions about cancer, link callers with resources
in their communities, and give information on local events.
The service is predominately in English and Spanish
but other languages are also supported.
 
The American Cancer Society provides trustworthy information and
inspirational support to all Americans affected by cancer.

Gift Room
A special room in the American Cancer Society office has items such as wigs, hats,
prostheses, bras and scarves available at no cost to cancer patients.

 Brochures and booklets on a variety of cancer related subjects are available at the
Grand Junction office, located in the Crossroads building, 2754 Compass Dr., Suite 328.

Some ACS materials are also available at the Pavilion at St. Mary’s Hospital.
