Grand Junction Police identified and arrested a suspect,  20-year-old Israel Massingill, shortly after the shootings. He is facing first and second degree murder charges, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, felony menacing and domestic violence.

Massingill did not have a weapon when he was arrested. Following the arrest, police have been searching for, but have been unable to locate the weapon used in the shooting.

In addition to the firearm being evidence in the case, police are also concerned the weapon may still be loaded. This could prove dangerous, especially if it is found by a child or someone unfamiliar with guns.

Orchard Mesa residents are asked to search around their property and neighborhood and if they find a gun to immediately call 911. Police also ask that if you find a gun, stay with it until law enforcement arrives but do not move or handle it.

This is an active investigation and if you can provide information about the shooting, call the Grand Junction Police Department at 970-242-6707. Anonymous reports can be made through Crime Stoppers of Mesa County at 970-241-7867.
