Olathe Schools Closed Thursday Due To Threat

Olathe elementary and middle schools were closed today due to a threat made against the schools.

A tip placed on Safe2tell alerted the authorities after a student made a threat in a classroom concerning guns and the schools.

Montrose County Sheriff Gene Lillard spoke to the press this morning about the threat and stated his office had contacted the individual suspected of making the threat.

After talking with the youngster, around midnight, it was also determined that he was not in possession of firearms, but the decision to close the schools was made earlier due to the threat, which because it came from Safe2Tell was considered credible and not a hoax.

The Olathe Police Department, as well as the Montrose County Sheriff's office, are showing an increased presence around the schools today.

According to authorities with knowledge of the incident, the schools will be reopened on Friday, February 8.

No injuries occurred at either school.
