October Bucket List: 10 Cool Things to Do in Grand Junction

October draws near and now’s the time to make plans, so here’s your October bucket list that could make it your best October ever.

Fall is here, but that doesn’t mean things are slowing down in the Grand Valley. October is packed full of events and activities both indoors and out.  From brides and babies to bowls and beer, there is plenty to do.

This is just a cross-section, but these are ten things you should put on your October in Grand Junction bucket list.

GRAND VALLEY WINE FESTIVAL

October 7

 

 

It’s just three weeks after Colorado Mountain Winefest, but the Grand Valley Wine Festival still draws a huge crowd. The event runs from 6pm-9pm in the CMU University Center Meyer Ballroom. Tickets are $40 and are available online. Non-tasters and designated drivers get in free.

DOWNTOWN ART FESTIVAL

October 6, 7

 

 

This is the second year for this event in downtown Grand Junction beginning Friday evening and continuing through the day on Saturday. Downtown galleries and businesses will be hosting artists and performances of all kinds, so it’s a great opportunity to experience some of the Grand Junction culture.

COMIC CON

October 7

 

 

The third annual Comic Con is held at Two Rivers Convention Center from 9am-5pm. There is a costume contest, kids room, presentations, and this year’s special guest is Ian, Doescher, author of the “William Shakespeare’s Star Wars” book series. Admission is free.

CMU THEATRE

Sept.28-Oct. 7

 

 

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “A Grand Night For Singing” is playing at Robinson Theatre. This musical features from classics like “The Sound of Music”, “Oklahoma”, “South Pacific”, “The King and I”, and others. Ticket prices are $21 for adults and the show is rated G.

OKTOBERFEST

October 14

 

 

This is a new take on an old event at the amphitheater at Las Colonias Park. Live music including Bicycle Annie and the Williams Brothers Band will be featured along with 10 breweries sampling German-style brews. The even goes from 2pm-6pm, and tickets are $18 which gets you in the gate along with a 1 L stein. If you are a beer lover, this one’s for you!

BIRTH AND BABY EXPO

October 14

 

 

Pregnancy, birth, and baby related education at the Doubletree from 9am-3:30pm. Speakers, events, and exhibitors will be featured, and admission is free.

EMPTY BOWLS

October 14

 

 

This is the annual fundraiser for the Catholic Outreach Soup Kitchen. There’s music, dessert, a bowl of soup–and you get to keep the hand-made pottery bowl. Tickets are $25 and available at City Market, GV Catholic Outreach, and various churches.

Historic demonstrations, apple cider pressing, hayrides, model trains, quilting, weaving, beekeeping, antique cars, and more will take you back in time at the Cross Orchards Historic Site in Grand Junction. Admission is just $5 for adults and $3.50 for kids.

 

 

Over 50 vendors come out to showcase their products and services to brides and grooms to be. The bridal fair goes from 2pm-6pm at the Doubletree.

The CMU Homecoming is a week-long community celebration featuring a victory dinner, bonfire, parade, and a football game against New Mexico Highlands. It’s all part of Mav Month in Grand Junction.
