As you travel down North Avenue near Colorado Mesa University, you may have noticed the empty lot at 1043 North Avenue. It used to be a favorite hang out spot for the North Avenue Guitar Guy but it is now fenced off and the land is being cleared off. What could be going on here?

This empty lot sits between the Chopstix Express restaurant and the building that is home to the Smoke Shop, Jackson Hewitt, and Metro PCS. Is a new local eatery going up? Maybe a new retail spot? A new house on one of Grand Junction's busiest street?

The last two look to be the most probable. Just last week a building permit was approved for a new four unit student housing unit to be built. The building just down the street has retail locations on the first floor and housing on the upper floors. The building permit calls for just the student housing units to be built.

This is another step in the ever-growing Colorado Mesa University. They have been building housing north of Orchard and a new multi-story building is being built on Kennedy Avenue at 7th street.  With more being offered at CMU, more space is needed for students.
