New Wedding Trend — Sending Out Not-Invites — Thoughtful or Tacky?

There is a new trend going around when it comes to weddings where the bride and groom are sending out Not-Invites. Basically, if you are not invited to the wedding, they will send you a pretty little piece of paper or an email telling you not to come.

Weddings are so expensive that it makes sense to try and keep the wedding down to your close knit family and friends. In this economy, brides and grooms are looking for ways to cut costs for their wedding day, and one way to do that is not to invite a ton of people.

My wife and I had to put together a long list of who we were inviting to the wedding. Every time we run into old friends and mention the wedding, it seems like our wedding list grows longer. It's not that we don't want our friends to come, we just have a small budget to work off of and we also don't have a huge venue. So keeping the list moderate can sometimes be a tough task, but I don't think I would ever send out Not-Invites. Those that aren't invite know us well enough to know that we still care about them, we just don't have the room or the money to invite the whole town (If this is you, thanks for understanding).

Weddings are hard enough to plan as it is to have to worry about sending out Not-Invites. Think about all the trouble we take sending out Save the Dates, Invites and RSVP's. Can you imagine having to worry about sending out Not-Invites on top of all of that?
