New Text Message Scam Hits Western Colorado

The Grand Junction Police Department is advising residents to be on the look out for a new text message scam asking for your Social Security number.

The incoming text message reads: "Wells Fargo Notification: 541-595-3388"

Should you call the number, you would receive the following audio message:

Your debit card has been compromised, please enter your Social Security number and press one."

Do not enter your Social Security number! Don't even call the number back. This is most definitely a scam, and is in no way authorized by Wells Fargo.

Should you receive the text message, the Grand Junction Police Department encourages you to delete it immediately.

The GJPD reminds you to never give out your personal information to anyone unless you know the person or agency requesting it is in fact valid.
