New Exhibits Coming to Museum of the West

From Buffalo Bill's visit to Grand Junction, early Colorado baseball, and a World War I Machine Gun Firing Range Re-creation, some very interesting new exhibits are set to open to the public at the Museum of the West in Grand Junction.

Other new exhibits that will open to the public include an updated Western Investigations Team Gallery with  Gand Junction founder George Crawford's safe, and and Indian Calendar Series by Jack Roberts.

This is the program from Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show on September 7, 1908 - one of the largest entertainment events ever held in Grand Junction. Three large trains loaded with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show entertainers, workmen, animals and equipment pulled into the Grand Junction Railroad yard and set up on a vacant lot near the tracks. Over 500 hundred Wild West Show employees unloaded hundreds of horses, ponies, and burros, and large tented pavilions. Over 10,000 people came to see the show that featured Native Americans, cowboys and cowgirls, trick riders, Russian Cossacks, Japanese soldiers, and many other acts from around the world

Kay Fiegel, Assistant Director of the Museum of Western Colorado says "We’ve added exhibits that tell the stories of our rich heritage and history of western Colorado.... the early history of Colorado baseball,  Buffalo Bill’s visit to Grand Junction,  what was found in George Crawford’s mystery safe and the World War I machine gun firing range."  Fiegel says the exhibits are family friendly, educational, and fun.

Starting in May, the museum hours are 10a-5pm Tuesday through Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday. Museum of the West is located at 462 Ute Avenue in Grand Junction.
