Community Hospital has set March 17 as moving day and the first day of operation at the new facility on G Road.

After nearly two  years of construction, Community Hospital is set to open at the new location on St. Patrick's Day. It was October 15, 2014 when the hospital broke ground on the  four-story, 130,000 square foot facility at 2351 G Road, just off of 24 Road.

Starting at 6:00AM on Thursday, hospital staff will begin moving patients to the new facility, and once the last patient has been moved, the facility on North 12th Street will officially be closed. Karen Martsolf, Marketing/Communications Director at Community Hospital, says they will be employing eight ambulances from the Grand Junction Fire Department to move current patients into the new facility.

Martsolf told Townsquare Media, the hospital staff is anxious for opening day.

It's hard to believe  we are going to be moving patients on Thursday, March 17th. We've been waiting for this day for a long, long time."

A public open house last Saturday saw more than 2,000 visitors tour the new hospital.

Martsolf says the support of the community has been tremendous, as evidenced by the great turnout for the open house. "It was absolutely phenomenal," she said. "It really speaks to the support of this community for our continued growth and success and we are absolutely just humbled and honored by that and we want to thank everyone so much for coming out."
