As Motown founder and producer Barry Gordy prepares for the opening of his Broadway production 'Motown: The Musical' in April, he's also treating fans of the famed label's music to a special treat with the release of 'Motown Originals: The Classic Songs That Inspired the Broadway Show!'While there's a single CD version available, I recommend the two CD set that contains not only some of the most popular of the Motown hits from The Temptations, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Miracles, The Four Tops and Marvin Gaye but also has some terrific songs from often forgotten Motown artists including Edwin Starr, Jr. Walker & The All Stars and Mary Wells and others. The CD collection will be available March 12th, but a digital version is set to release March 5th.

The Broadway show, 'Motown: The Musical' was written by Gordy and tells the story of Motown the record company and the artists and songs we've come to love. The play will premiere on April 14 at New York City's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Previews will start on March 11.

While most of us will have to settle for just the music, if you're in New York this summer and want to attend the show, here's a quick look at what to expect from the production.
