Montrose has seen a rise in criminal activity and, with too few officers, are getting some help from the public.

The Public Safety Citizen Advisory Committee will be shadowing the Montrose Police officers to try and determine what is needed and how to address those needs.

The committee is made up of 15 members of the community and will also be attending meetings to help advise what is needed to alleviate the issue. Between 2017 and 2018, Montrose saw an increase in felony arrests of 49% and it is hoped this will help decrease those numbers.

Because of the number of officers available the department is hard-pressed to act proactively and it is hoped once the committee reveals its findings that they will have a way to address these and other issues.

Should it be determined the department needs more funds, those will be made available from the general fund, however, a tax increase may also be an option as well.
