Just to give everyone a heads up for the upcoming weekend – If you happen to be out and about Sunday evening, and see something strange at Mesa Mall, there’s a good chance that you shouldn’t be alarmed.

The Grand Junction Police Department and the Grand Junction Fire Department, in cooperation with the Mesa Mall management and security, will conduct an Emergency Response training drill on the Mesa Mall property.

The drill will take place after mall hours this Sunday when shoppers are off property. Signs stating “Police Training in Progress” will be posted in training areas.

The training areas will be contained in the northwest quadrant of Mesa Mall, and will run from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday.

The only areas not affected by the training exercise are Target and exterior restaurants, which will remain open for normal business hours.

According to Mesa Mall officials, the cooperative effort reflects the commitment of local law enforcement, private security professionals and Mesa Mall to keep the public safe.

The training exercise is scenario-based to help with emergency responder training, and to demonstrate police and fire department responses to an active threat.
