Mesa County Sheriff’s Office to Present Class on Prescription Drug Abuse
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Safe Kids America, will present a three-part series on prescription drugs and heroin, and how teens are abusing them.
The first class is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 22 at Canyon View Vineyard Church, 736 24 ½ Road in Grand Junction.
Two of the drugs to be discussed in the first class are “krokodil” and “Purple Drank.”
“Krokodil” is a street drug that includes Desomorphine and synthesized from Codeine tablets.
“Purple Drank” is made by mixing Codeine/Promethazine (generally found in prescription cough syrup) with soda (mainly Sprite). Jolly ranchers are sometimes added for flavor. "Purple Drank" was brought to the attention of a sheriff's deputy by a 7th grader.
The class is free to the public, and anyone can sign up for the class by visiting www.safekidsamerica.org.
