January is National Crime Stoppers Awareness Month and Mesa County Crime Stoppers is using it as an opportunity to make the community more aware of their efforts.

Mesa County Crime Stoppers is taking advantage of the national event as a way of highlighting it's success over the last 30 years and also as a way to discuss their vision and plans for the future.

According to Crime Stoppers Publicity Chair Leigh Fitch,

In 2016 we will be focusing on a different safety topic each month. Our Crime of the Week will still be at the forefront, but we're backing up that crime fighting effort with a crime prevention effort as well.

The safety topics are designed to to educate residents about crime and safety related threats facing the community including some many people may not be aware of.

The local group will also be offering tips on crime prevention, safety and specifics on submitting information to Crime Stoppers. Some of the topics already planned for the monthly safety campaign include domestic violence, child and senior safety, drugs and pet safety.

Leaders form local communities are planning proclamation events for National Crime Stoppers Awareness Month. Proclamations will be presented on these dates and locations.
